Description

Signac was an early exponent of Georges Seurat's pointillist painting method. In spring 1889 he traveled to the Mediterranean town of Cassis to paint a series of seascapes, including this placid view of sailboats returning to port at dusk. Signac often assigned his paintings opus numbers, thus associating them with musical compositions; this is Opus 200.
